BASANT/VASANT PANCHMI (THE RISE OF POET KALIDASA)

 


When is basant/vasant panchmi celebrated ?

Basant Panchmi/Vasant Panchmi :  Basant Panchmi  is  a  day  dedicated  to  Goddess Saraswati  and  is  celebrated  on  the  5th  day Of Magha. 

On this day Hindus worship, Saraswati Devi The Goddess Of Wisdom, Knowledge, Music And Culture.

The festival mark the end of Winter and beginning of Spring, Vasant Panchmi means The Fifth Day (Panchmi) Of Spring (Vasant).

 It takes place 40 days before the Holi festival, On this auspicious day people dress in yellow, also yellow color represents the mustard fields of Punjab And Haryana at the time of the year, symbolising the glory of Spring season.

People wear bright yellow clothes as the yellow color Is traditionally associated with the festival, People decorate their house with yellow flowers and garland and cook colorful food to mark the beginning of Spring with dishes cooked being yellow such as: sweet rice flavored with saffron. Students all over the country offer their prayers to Goddess Saraswati also children are encouraged to write in front of the idol to seek the blessings from the Goddess.

The Famous Iconic Writer Is Associated With Vasant Panchmi, The Story Of KALIDASA.

Fortunately Kalidasa was married to the beautiful Princess who kicked him out When She realised he was foolish, In despair Kalidasa was Planning to kill himself, That’s when Goddess Saraswati emerged from the River and told him to bathe in the waters, When he did he was blessed that water gave Wisdom and he became the great Poet celebrated throughout the world.
